Welcome!
|
2007 was a great year for UltraMidwest events. The Balltown Classic had it's -
now to be expected - thunderstorms to cool everyone off at the onset of the event.
But the field finished in good form as the day warmed up and the sun beat down.
Dennis Grelk set his own kind of record, despite going off course and beating the
sag wagon to the last checkpoint. Bill Ford powered in first for the men and Merry
Vander Linden was the first woman rider to complete the double. And 2008 will be
even better! Maybe it won't rain this time. The Balltown Classic and 100 will
be held on May 31, 2008.
Then there was Metamora! Great turnout and a HOT field. And I do mean HOT. The temps
hung in the 80's to mid 90's all day and the tarry chip seal bubbling and snapping
like popcorn, the a tough bunch pushed through the day to finish the 4 50 mile laps.
This year the Metamora 4X50 might have a new faster route - and less gravel! And
start nearer the motel. This year the event is renamed the Prairie State
4X50 and is scheduled for
August 9th, 2008.
And the big one - the UltraMidwest 24 hour Challenge - along with the 12 and 6 hour
races will once again be held at the Riverdale Jr High outside of Port Byron, IL.
Those events will be held on the Saturday before Labor Day, August 30, 2008.
In 2008, UltraMidwest is again producing races that are sanctioned by the Ultramarathon
Cycling Association; the UltraCycling Cup, and the World Cup. We are
proud to be associated with the UMCA and all the cyclists that compete in these
races!
