And now it is February! Although January has not been pleasant this year we still logged 18,000 miles and rode 37 centuries. Not bad for a year when the extreme weather is a topic everywhere. Even folks in Florida have been complaining. From Nick Gerlich I hear that this was the coldest Gator Country Hell Week ever, I hope that is not repeated at Fredericksburg. Oddly enough, of our top 4 mileage loggers 2 are from Illinois and 2 from down south - Florida and Arkansas, I believe.
There is a new Big Dog poll on the site - just click on the orange checkbox in the upper right corner and select the second option. Last month the question asked about winter centuries. By far most responded as you might expect, that they were willing to do a hundred in cold weather if that weather was 'tolerable' - that, of course, begs the question; at what point does it become intolerable? One of the responders said that they simply don't ride in the winter at all, while at theother end of the spectrum our sun belt rider 'couldn't care less' about the winter. Anyway this month's poll is a different topic entirely.
Well, It looks like the reboot of the Century Challenge for 2010 is dead - although I got some riders willing to host centuries, there is simply not enough time to get a formal plan in place. But I encourage everyone to think about hosting a 100 miler sometime this year. Put it onthe Big Dog Calendar and I'll try to help promote it on Facebook.
But we have other plans/suggestions in the works. Look for the Big Dogs Express (newsletter) showing up in your email soon!
For now,
Arf Arf,
Dave
