Kurt Searvogel started riding with the Big Dogs in 2010 and let everyone know he
was there. Coming from a mountain bike and tri racing background, Kurt
demonstrated that he could also ride long and hard. In 2010 he was the UMCA
UltraCup Champ, and in 2011 he placed or won numerous races, including the
UltraMidwest 24 Hour Race.
Both 2010 and 2011 pitted Kurt against the
Slovenian Dog Marko Baloh, whose third place finish in RAAM and world record for
the 1000k made him a serious contender, but the scales tipped toward Kurt when
he broke both the Big Dogs records for the Century Challenge (212 100 milers
compared to Larry Schwartz' 203) and Mileage Mania (26330 vs Schwartz' 26104).
It was a tough call since both are remarkable cyclists, but the Big Dogs Men's
Rider of the Year - is Kurt Searvogel!
Randy Love. A few years back, Randy set the women's record for the Balltown Classic, and
still holds it in her age category. It was not until 2011 that she started
logging miles with the Big Dogs.
In April, Randy took a spill while
crossing a railroad track, rode home - although her leg 'felt funny' - and then
found out that she had a fracture and would have to have her hip
pinned!
Within a week she was back on the trainer and got out on the road
again as soon as they released her.
In 2011 Randy rode over 12000 miles
and did 35 centuries, second only to Kay Covington! Not bad for a
rookie!
Randy Love is the Women's Rider of the Year for 2011 -
Congratulations! Marko Baloh and Kay Covington topped the VO2Max indoor challenge for January - since December's Larry and Darla have already been awarded a prize. They will each sent a pair of the sunglasses supplied bt Daryl Kunz! Congratulations to you 2! Century Challenge 201118 Riders completed a century a month in 2011! The Last Dogs Standing Standings have not changed, The Pierces, the Youngs and the Camp have all got 'er done for 11 years!
